1.18 Million Voters To Be Deleted From IEBC Register

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has now said that due to anomalies, the official unveiling of the voters register will be postponed.

According to Chebukati, the delay was due by concerns expressed by audit firm KPMG regarding the possibility of deactivating 1.18 million voter records.

Voters who have died, those who have duplicate records, and those who may have registered using IDs that do not belong to them are all included in the one million.

KPMG found 246,465 deceased voters, 481,711 duplicate data, and 226,143 voters who enrolled with fraudulent IDs in a report.

It also found that 164,269 people had voter registration records that were based on invalid identification documents (IDs and Passports).

“These flaws must now be addressed before the register can be certified and published,” Chebukati said at a press conference on Wednesday.

Gerald Kasimu, KPMG’s Head of Advisory, said they discovered some irregularities with the voter registration procedure, hinting that there are more concerns to be investigated.

He questioned the validity of the voter registration process as well as the hosting of the voter register
