The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to 107 bars, restaurants, and entertainment joints, warning that they risk closure over noise pollution and non-compliance with environmental regulations.
In a notice on Monday, September 22, the authority said several facilities had been served with Environmental Restoration Orders but most fail to comply.
“NEMA has been receiving public noise pollution complaints from the public regarding club/lounge, bar & Restaurants across the country.
“Several facilities have been served with Environmental Restoration Orders requiring them to provide environmental compliance documents but majority have failed to comply,” the notice read.
NEMA directed the affected establishments to present several mandatory documents, including the certificate of incorporation and a list of directors or owners (CR-12), within seven days from the date of the directive.
The facilities are also expected to submit a valid Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) license for the facility; the current Environmental Audit (EA) and details of noise pollution control measures in place.
Further, NEMA directed the establishments to give reasons why legal action or closure should not be taken against them.
The affected businesses include Red Eagle Bar & Restaurant, O.J Club Ruiru, Jamboo Lounge – Cool Breeze Bar, Clan Lounge, Kettle House, Alfakheer Lounge, Emirates Club, Habanos Lounge, Bar Next Door, Sumo Lounge, Club Image, Quiver Lounge, Bar Next Door, Noir Gallery/Club, Quiver Lounge, Speedy Bar and Restaurant, K-Hood Club, Aviator Airport 44 and Edu’s Bar.
Others are Kosta Bar & Restaurant, Status Lounge, Infusion Lounge, Take-off Club, Club Ibiza, Clarence Hotel, Alaska Lounge & Grill, Zuri Lounge, Pre-town Bar, Winnam Bar, Mchana Restaurant, Tumaini Mart, Airport Club, Stable Anchor, Kijito Green Club, Funcity Hotel, Club 030, Ibury Lounge, Timber Pub and Bwibo Club.
Gee Lounge, Cruz Lounge, Replay Club, Club Koshers Bistro, V-Spot Club, Cocktails & Dreams Pub, Club Down Town, V Club, KAPU Supermarket, Old Donholm Bar, Manyatta Club, Mamba Village, Baracuda Bar, Florida Club, ABC Pre-game Lounge, Lions Club, Paris Club, Kijito Gardens, County Club and Butwani Place are also affected.
Kareme Bar and Restaurant, Abol Cafe, Club Carwash, Fry’z Inn Restaurant, Cavali @ the Manor, Temperature Club, Maku Pap, Joska Bar, Nova Club, Makeshift Club, Sports Club, Kathekani Bar, Freetown Club, Pamoja Court Field, Munchden Bar & Grill, The Place, Kifaru Place, Café Deli, Monaco Club and Coyote Haven Bridge Limited are also on the list.
Others include, Milimani Bar, Smoke Yard Lounge, Tamz Club, Roho Safi Club, Eagles Bar, 4 Tees Hotel, Charina Club, Miami Club, Tulia House (Backpackers), Slide Pub, Trojan Restaurant, Backyard Club, Kivulini Restaurant, Ozalia Square, Likizo House, Galu Backyard Lounge, Big Smoke Club, Pre-game Lounge, Egesa Villa and Club Space Mall.
Club Six-pack, Governor, Illusion Lounge, Club 1824, Kengele’s Holding, IBIZA Club, 213 Lavington Club, Boba Drinks and Cafe and LA Baita Lounge are also affected.
