11 Arrested in NACADA Drug Crackdown in Homa Bay and Kisii Counties

Eleven individuals have been arrested in a major anti-narcotics crackdown led by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) in Kisii and Homa Bay counties.

The intensified operation, part of NACADA’s nationwide campaign against drug and substance abuse, targeted key trafficking and distribution networks. In Oyugis, Homa Bay County, two suspects were apprehended in a joint intelligence-led raid by NACADA, the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), and the Administration Police Service (APS).

Authorities recovered 400 packets of uncustomed Supermatch cigarettes, 14 packets of Oris cigarettes, cash believed to be proceeds from illicit trade, and cannabis sativa (bhang). NACADA indicated the cigarettes were likely smuggled into the country without customs clearance, breaching trade and revenue laws. The suspects are being held at Oyugis Police Station pending further investigation.

In a separate raid in Nyakongo Village, Kitutu Central Sub-County, Kisii County, a multi-agency team involving the National Police Service (NPS), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and ANU Nyanza Region arrested eight suspects. The operation uncovered 134 brooms suspected to contain narcotics and two 90kg sacks of dried plant material believed to be cannabis.

These operations follow the recent dismantling of a major drug distribution ring linked to a well-known drug baron in Kisii, reinforcing NACADA’s resolve to dismantle drug networks.

NACADA reiterated its commitment to a multi-agency strategy in combating drug abuse and urged the public to report drug-related activities anonymously via its toll-free hotline 1192.
