12 Killed In Fresh Marsabit Clashes

Two separate bandit attacks in Marsabit County on Saturday resulted in the deaths of at least 12 persons and the injuries of three more.

An unspecified number of residents were killed while trying to save their animals, goats, and sheep.

According to Marsabit County Police Commander Robinson Mboloi, armed gunmen assaulted a manyatta (homestead) in the Jaldesa area at around 5:00 a.m. and made off with 1,000 head of cattle, 300 goats and sheep in the first attack

Following a gun battle with security services, Mboloi reported that police responded swiftly and followed the perpetrators, who escaped and left the stolen animals.

Mboloi claimed that another group of criminals assaulted another manyatta in Kubi Qallo and stole 800 heads of cattle, 1,500 goats, and sheep in the second incident.

“Four more persons were killed in the gunfight; when police received the information, they went to the location and recovered the stolen animals with the help of Wananchi (residents),” he continued.

The security chief for Marsabit County announced that a manhunt had been initiated for all individuals involved in the attacks.
