A suspected wildlife smuggling attempt was foiled at the Namanga One Stop Border Post after officers intercepted a live python concealed in a suitcase.
The discovery was made during a routine inspection of a passenger bus travelling from Dar es Salaam to Nairobi. Authorities became suspicious after identifying a box labeled “spare parts” in the luggage compartment.
Upon inspection, officers found a live 13-foot python hidden inside the container.
The bus crew has since been detained for questioning as investigations continue to establish the source and intended destination of the reptile.
Authorities say the incident highlights the ongoing threat of wildlife trafficking along key transit routes, warning that smugglers are increasingly using deceptive methods to evade detection.
Investigations are ongoing.
