15 Die In Mali As Livestock Truck Collides With Coaches

Fifteen people died and 32 were injured when a livestock truck collided with two coaches in southern Mali on Tuesday, the transport ministry announced.

The coaches were on their way to Mopti in central Mali, when they collided with the ten-tonne truck travelling in the opposite direction, the ministry said in a statement.

The accident, which occurred between the towns of Fana and Konobougou, “is thought to have been caused by drivers speeding and falling asleep”, the ministry added.

Road accidents are frequent in Mali and are generally due to the poor condition of roads and vehicles, as well as to human error.
