Two fishermen from Nyangina beach in Suba North constituency, Homa Bay County, are suspected to have lost their lives after the boat they were using during a fishing expedition capsized on Friday night.

Two other anglers who were aboard at the time narrowly escaped death when a passenger ferry en route to Mbita from Luanda Kotieno collided with the fishing boat.

The survivors were able to swim close to shore before being rescued by other fishermen who were at the scene.

According to Nyangina Beach Management Unit chairman Joseph Ouma Kaseu, the captain of the ferry allegedly failed to notice the boat since his vision was impaired by darkness.
