SALT LAKE CITY
A shooting in the parking lot of a Mormon church in Salt Lake City on Wednesday killed two people and wounded six others, authorities said.
The violence erupted outside a meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as dozens of people were attending a funeral inside. All victims were adults.

Police do not believe the shooting was a random act or a targeted attack against the faith. “We don’t believe this was a targeted attack against a religion or anything like that,” said Salt Lake City Police Chief Brian Redd.
He added that investigators also do not believe the shooting was random. No suspect was immediately in custody.
The scene was flooded with about 100 law enforcement vehicles, and helicopters circled overhead in the aftermath.
“This should never have happened outside a place of worship,” said Mayor Erin Mendenhall. “This should never have happened outside a celebration of life.”
