The Political Parties Liaison Committee (PPLC) has called for an audit of the 2022 presidential election results in Kenya.
The committee, which is created under Section 38 of the Political Parties Act, aims to eliminate doubts about the results announced by the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
“It is still not too late… We can still do it and put the doubts and arguments to rest,” said Evans Misati, national chair of the PPLC. “Let’s conduct a full audit of the presidential election results,”
The proposal was a response to Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s claim that his victory was stolen and that an audit would substantiate his claims. The PPLC also noted that the IEBC keeps its records for three years.
Azimio has maintained that the cost of living, audit of the 2022 presidential election results, and restructuring and reconstitution of the IEBC are part of the talks.
However, Deputy President Rigathi Gachangua has suggested that the audit of the 2022 presidential election results should be dropped from the National Dialogue Committee agenda.
Gachangua argued that the 2022 presidential election was audited by the Supreme Court, which declared William Ruto as the validly elected President.
PPLC also proposed that presidential election results should be transmitted to the national tallying center, media houses, and a public portal.
