2022 Ruto Loyalists Political Rejects Vetted for PSC Position

"My experience as Kisii governor for ten years and Permanent Secretary in former Presidents Daniel Arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki's regimes adequately prepared me to serve in the commission,"

President William Ruto’s supporters who lost in the general election on August 9 were vetted for the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) on Friday, December 30, 2022.

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Chairperson Johnston Muthama and former Kisii Governor James Ongwae were among those vetted.

Ex-Parliamentarians Peter Mwathi (Limuru), David Were (Matungu), and Cornellly Serem were also on the panel.

Former Kwale county assembly speakers Sammy Ruwa and John Ekale also appeared for questioning.

The members were vetted by PSC members chaired by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula.

Ongwae, a long-time Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) member but later joined Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza party on September 9 was also among the shortlisted candidates.

The former county boss defended his candidacy before the vetting committee, claiming that he was the best candidate for the job.

“My experience as Kisii governor for ten years and Permanent Secretary in former Presidents Daniel Arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki’s regimes adequately prepared me to serve in the commission,” the former ODM luminary told the committee.

Muthama, on the other hand, told the commission that as a former legislator, he would be the best fit.
