22 Illegal Firearms Voluntarily Surrendered in Kerio Valley

In a major step toward lasting peace in the Kerio Valley, police in Tot have received 22 AK-47 rifles and 108 rounds of ammunition voluntarily surrendered by residents on September 22, 2025.

According to authorities, the firearms were handed over to the sub-county security team through the collaboration of local peace committees from Ketut, Mokoro, Murukutwo, Chesuman, Mon, Chemwonyo, Chechan, and Koibirir locations.

The weapons and ammunition have since been secured at Tot Police Station.

Security officials hailed the move as a significant milestone in ongoing disarmament and peacebuilding efforts in the conflict-prone region. They noted that such initiatives are essential to reducing armed clashes, fostering trust among communities, and promoting peaceful coexistence.

The National Police Service commended the cooperation of residents, elders, and local peace committees, urging continued support through information sharing and voluntary surrender of illegal firearms to enhance security in Kerio Valley.
