Detectives in Nairobi and other parts of the country are investigating a series of deaths reported in recent days, including the mysterious demise of a female student in Kasarani, a fatal fall in Pipeline, a drowning in Migori, a suspected suicide in Nakuru, and a murder in Makueni.
In Kasarani, police said 22-year-old Erika Kinyua, a student at a local institution, was found dead in her private hostel room on Friday afternoon.
Her relatives raised the alarm after she failed to answer calls, prompting security personnel to force open her door at Qwetu Hostel.
She was discovered long after she had died. The cause of death remains unknown, and her body has been moved to the mortuary for a postmortem.
In a separate case, 27-year-old Blair Makau died after falling from the fifth floor of an apartment in the Pipeline area on Thursday evening. Witnesses said he slipped while standing on his balcony and landed headfirst, sustaining severe injuries and a broken leg.
He was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Police have opened an inquiry into the circumstances of the fall.
Elsewhere, in Wote, Makueni County, 23-year-old Jeremiah Lankai Seruni died in hospital after being assaulted by unknown attackers. Police said they are following leads to identify the culprits and establish the motive behind the killing.
According to police data, murder and suicide cases remain a growing concern nationwide. Authorities say as many as eight murder cases and up to five suicides are reported daily, underscoring a worsening trend of violent and self-inflicted deaths across the country.
