Security agencies have recorded another milestone in the ongoing disarmament exercise in Turkana County, with 26 illegal firearms surrendered during an operation in Katilu.
The National Police Service (NPS) said the weapons were handed over as part of continued efforts to remove illegal arms from circulation and enhance security in the region.
The recovered firearms include 21 AK-47 rifles, two M16 rifles, two MK4 firearms and one G3 rifle.
Authorities noted that the disarmament programme combines targeted operations with community engagement and sensitisation initiatives aimed at encouraging voluntary surrender of illegal weapons.

The latest recovery is seen as part of broader efforts to address insecurity in the region, with police indicating that cooperation from residents has played a role in the progress made so far.
The National Police Service said the exercise will continue as part of long-term strategies to promote stability and reduce incidents linked to illegal firearms.
