More than 290 youth have graduated from Meru Youth Service (MYS) at the Igoji training centre in Imenti South Constituency, Meru County.
The pass-out parade of the inaugural cohort of Meru Youth Service (MYS) trainees to graduate, after an intensive 3-week training program at the Centre.
The pass-out ceremony was officiated by Governor Kawira Mwangaza and other county officials at the Training Camp.
According to Meru Deputy Governor Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia, the training will reduce criminality in the society because participants will not engage in drug and other related activities due to a lack of employment, as many will be self-employed.
He went on to say that this is a push for young people to have a platform to know themselves and remove self-esteem as they go out to enrol in various vocational colleges.
Governor Kawira stated that no graduate will return to the street to beg or become addicted to drugs, and that her administration will follow them to see that their lives succeed.
She urged them not to limit themselves, to focus, and to never look back from where they came from in order to make their dreams come true.
She added that in the coming weeks, they will launch another recruitment, urging those who want to join to be on the lookout.
“The 291 graduands will be joining Meru National Polytechnic on 29th of this month to undertake professional courses (190 professional guards, 67 dairy farm managers and 34 house managers) that are tailor-made to impart them with marketable, competitive skills,” she said.
