The Ministry of Health has announced a strong start to the ongoing Measles-Rubella (MR) and Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) campaign, with 3.5 million children already vaccinated against measles out of a target of 6.5 million.
In a statement released to newsrooms, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale confirmed that 12.1 million children have received the TCV vaccine out of the 19.2 million targeted across the country.
“Notably, over 4,000 zero-dose children—those never previously vaccinated—have now received both MR and TCV vaccines, strengthening population immunity,” said CS Duale.
The campaign, which began on July 5, is being rolled out in public health facilities and outreach centres including schools, churches, mosques, markets, and local communities. Trained teams have also been deployed to visit households and local centres to ensure all eligible children are reached.
CS Duale assured the public that the vaccines are WHO-approved, having undergone rigorous international and local safety assessments. “These vaccines are already protecting millions of children globally,” he said.
Going forward, TCV will be routinely offered at nine months of age in all immunizing facilities across Kenya’s 47 counties. The vaccine provides high protection against drug-resistant Salmonella Typhi, a major cause of typhoid in areas with poor sanitation and limited access to clean water.
To prevent future supply shortages, the Ministry confirmed that the National Treasury has allocated Ksh 4.9 billion in the 2025/26 financial year to support vaccine procurement and administration.
The Ministry also extended its appreciation to parents, health workers, religious leaders, and community mobilisers for their continued support and urged Kenyans to ensure all eligible children are vaccinated.
