3 Men In Court For Allegedly Defrauding Narok County To Get More Fertilizer

As the current Government continues to advance its campaign of food security in the Country by providing subsidized fertilizer to farmers, many ‘cartels’ have seized the opportunity to enrich themselves from the same fertilizer.

This comes after three young men from Narok county were arraigned today in court facing charges of defrauding the Government by misquoting their farm sizes to obtain thousands of bags of subsidized fertilizer and selling the same at the current market prices to other farmers.

The accused persons, Bimack Kipchirchir, Samuel Kipkosgei and Harry Kiprop were arraigned before principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi facing charges of defrauding the Government 6,150 bags of 50 Kg subsidy fertilizer valued at Sh 15,375,000.

Bimack Kipchirchir was separately charged that between September 4 and October 16 2023 at various National Cereals and Produce Boards deports, using fraudulent tricks, he lied to the NCPB that he had a parcel of land measuring 750 acre in Narok hence obtaining 3349 bags of 50Kg subsidy fertilizer worth Sh 8,522,500 which he would not have obtained where it not for the fraudulent tricks.

Samuel Kipkosgeiwas also charged that between August 3 and September 23, 2023 at various National Cereals and Produce Boards deports, using fraudulent tricks, he lied to the NCPB that he had a parcel of land measuring 600 acre in Narok hence obtaining 2801 bags of 50Kg subsidy fertilizer worth Sh 7,002,500 which he would not have obtained where it not for the fraudulent tricks.

They all denied the charges and were released on a bond of Ksh 8 million each with an alternative cash bail of Ksh 4 million.
