The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) approved only five institutions to offer Bachelor of Architectural Studies, in order to streamline the construction sector and produce only fully-trained architects.
Students who took the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, according to the portal, would only be able to pursue a Bachelor of Architecture at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and Kenyatta University (KU).
The University of Nairobi (UoN), the Technical University of Kenya (TUK), formerly Kenya Polytechnic, and the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) are among the other institutions of higher learning that have been approved to offer the degree.
The Bachelor of Architecture offered at JKUAT will be the most expensive, costing Ksh367,200 per academic year, according to information on the KUCCPS portal.
Students wishing to pursue the course at UoN must pay Ksh 347,650 per year, while Kenyatta University charges Ksh306,000.
Bachelor of Architectural Studies costs Ksh288,000 at TUM and Ksh275,400 at the Technical University of Kenya.
Students would be chosen based on their performance in Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, and Physics.
The cluster points used in the university selection process would be determined by the subject selection. The cut-off points in 2021 ranged from 39 to 43 points.
