
Mariakani town is going to get a facelift, with a planned infrastructure development at the town along the Northern Corridor, Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has said. – By Ramadhan Kambi.
Speaking after he launched the construction of a 2 kilometre road commonly known as MARSECO by-pass, the governor said that the county’s Urban Upgrading Programme will continue to open all the county’s major town roads, aimed at transforming livelihoods.
The road will be upgraded into a cabro status and it starts at the junction of the Mariakani-Kaloleni highway opposite the new Mariakani bus park constructed by the county government.
According to Governor Kingi, the entire construction of the road which goes past Mariakani Secondary School in Kakunaa area is going to cost more than Sh60 million.

“We are in Mariakani to officially launch the construction of our roads in this town. In our vision, we have several programs and one of the programs is to give our towns a facelift. Mariakani town is among the major towns we depend on as County government. So under this program, we implemented projects in Malindi, Mtwapa, Kilifi and Watamu,” said the Governor.
He also announced the upgrading of another road within the county in the next financially year.
“There is also another road that will put under cabro so as to ease transport and movement of goods. That will be done in the next financial year,” said the Governor.
For the past three years, the devolved government has launched several multi-million projects meant at benefiting the communities.

Speaking in an interview, Mariakani ward MCA Frank Fondo Kimosho said that after the two kilometres of the road is completed, another Sh7 million has already been set aside to extend the road to connect along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway at Kibanda Hasara.
“Once the road is completed to Marseco, I have allocated funds for the murraming of the roads to connect to the main highway near Kibanda Hasara,” said Mr Kimosho.
