Kiernan Forbes, better known as AKA, the award-winning rapper, has died.
According to News24, the 35-year-old rapper was killed on Florida Road on his birthday during the Friday night event.
The first responder on the scene who spoke on the condition of anonymity said Forbes was shot while standing on the pavement shortly after 10 p.m.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda confirmed that a “well-known rapper” was gunned down in Florida Road, Durban on Friday evening just after 10 PM.
“I can confirm that two men were killed and one of them is a well-known rapper.
Police will not be releasing any names of the victims yet until a full investigation is completed” Netshiunda said, as reported by News24.
The shooting took place in the popular entertainment district, which came to a halt after police officers closed the road.
According to ALS Paramedics spokesman Garrith Jamieson, two men were killed in the incident.
He stated that both had gunshot wounds and that despite efforts to resuscitate one of them, he died as a result of his injuries.
Forbes was scheduled to perform in the city on Friday night as part of his birthday celebrations, and Instagram footage showed the rapper toasting with a table full of friends.
