Seven former Nyandarua County Government officials have been arraigned before a Nakuru court on charges of attempting to commit an economic crime and abuse of office.
The prosecution alleges that the officials fraudulently approved payments totaling Ksh 12,998,000 from public funds to six suppliers for services that were never rendered.
These services were supposedly for an investment conference that never materialized.
The accused include Esther Muthoni Wamuiya, Regina Wairimu Wacira, Vincent Muiruri Wambui, Sophia Wairimu Karanja, Shadrack Kanyungo Ndirangu, Timothy Ngunjiri Kiragu, and Simon Mwangi Ng’ang’a.
The prosecution, led by counsels Louise Murunga, Angeline Chinga, and Dan Smith Mbalasi, plans to call 32 witnesses to testify in the case.
These witnesses are expected to provide details on how the funds were allegedly used to pay for services like event management, printing materials, stage design, security, and audio-visual equipment for the non-existent conference.
