President William Samoei Ruto has announced the return of Prof. Kithure Kindiki and Aden Duale among other allies as his part of his new Cabinet members.
This comes just a week after dismissing the previous one in response to demands from the nationwide Gen Z protests that have gripped the country for one month.
President Ruto nominated 11 Cabinet Secretaries, including:
- Ministry of the Interior and National Administration – Prof Kithure Kindiki
- Ministry of Health – Dr Debra Mlongo Barasa
- Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development – Alice Wahome
- Ministry of Education – Julius Migos Ogamba
- Ministry of Defence – Aden Bare Duale
- Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development – Dr Andrew Mwihia Karanja
- Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry – Roselinda Soipan Tuya
- Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation – Eric Muriithi Munga
- Ministry of Roads and Transport – Davis Chirchir
- Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy – Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u
- Attorney-General – Rebecca Miano
Rebecca Miano, if approved, will replace former National Assembly Speaker and Attorney General Justin Muturi as the chief government counsel. The President is expected to nominate the remaining names after consultation.Â
The President’s move is seen as a direct response to the demands of the Gen Z protesters, who have been calling for significant changes in governance and policy.
As the country awaits the reactions of Kenyans, the focus now shifts to the potential impact of these new appointments on the ongoing protests and the broader political landscape.
With these nominations, President Ruto aims to address the concerns of the younger generation while ensuring stability and progress in his administration. The coming week will be crucial in determining the effectiveness of this new Cabinet and the future of the nationwide protests.
