Kenya Railways has launched a new Premium class coach on the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), promising an elevated travel experience at Ksh12,000 per trip.

This new offering features reclining seats that convert into beds, enhancing comfort for long journeys.

Transport Principal Secretary Mohamed Daghar, alongside key transport officials including Kenya Ports Authority Managing Director Captain William Ruto and Kenya Railways Chairman Abdi Duale, inspected the new coaches at the Port Reitz terminal.

Daghar highlighted the coach’s modern amenities designed to transform customer travel experiences.

The Premium class coach boasts 28 spacious seats per wagon, each well-padded with a combination of leather and fabric, ample legroom, and a headrest. Passengers will also enjoy additional storage space, including compartments for shoes.

Exclusive catering services will be introduced to further enhance the premium experience.

Kenya Railways has emphasized that the Premium class will provide a segregated, private environment, allowing passengers to work, relax, or enjoy the scenic views in comfort. VIP lounges and priority boarding are additional benefits for Premium class travelers.

Current SGR ticket prices for the economy class are Ksh1,500, with first-class tickets priced at Ksh4,500.
