Azimio co-principal Martha Karua has said that Azimio is on its deathbed after a section of ODM members were nominated to the cabinet on Wednesday, July 24.
Speaking in an interview on Ghetto radio on Thursday, July 25, Karua asserted that the coalition had been pulling in different directions since the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) began its talks.
According to the Narc Kenya party leader, Azimio agreed at the beginning of the year that every party should build itself.
“Azimio is shaky and I think after yesterday, it’s done. I’m saying shaky because since the NADCO talks, we’ve been pulling in different directions. The only thing that has saved us is that we said at the beginning of this year, let every party go and build itself. So I’ve been busy with Narc-Kenya and not busy with Azimio,” Karua remarked.
Karua, however, said some of the coalition members will hold a meeting on Monday next week and make a statement later.
On President William Ruto nominating four ODM members to the cabinet, the Narc Kenya leader noted that she was not surprised.
“I was not surprised because Ruto modus operandi, his way of working, he is everything. He is a jack of all trades. I am sure that he can appoint the CSs, but he will be the one running the ministries. It is a one-man show,” Karua stated.
According to Karua, she would continue to stand with Kenyans and serve them as their opposition leader regardless of the ongoing political realignments.
“I take the opposition. What suites me is standing with Kenyans and I will stand with them all the time but if I get the chance to serve them, I will,” Karua stated.
Karua further called on the youths to continue championing good leadership for the betterment of the nation. According to Karua, there were no signs of a surrender by the young generation.
The NARC-Kenya leader accused politicians of ignoring the grievances raised by the young protesters.
“The engine of a revolution is always the youth, it may be led by others but it is the youth who always come to the front,” Karua revealed.
On Wednesday, President Ruto nominated John Mbadi, Hassan Joho , Wycliffe Oparanya and Opiyo Wandayi to the cabinet, all under Azimio.
Narc Kenya is one of the parties that make up the Azimio coalition, and Karua, as its leader, was the coalition’s presidential running mate in the 2022 general elections.
