On Saturday, several students from Mbooni Girls High School were rushed to hospitals after sustaining injuries in a road accident along the Kikima-Machakos Highway.
The accident occurred when the bus, full of students heading to Machakos town, reportedly lost control and overturned.
A rescue team was quickly dispatched to the scene to evacuate the trapped students. Those injured were taken to Machakos and Kikima Level 5 hospitals for treatment.
Images obtained showed the bus severely damaged on one side, with glass pieces strewn across the highway.
While the exact number of injured students has not been confirmed, no deaths have been reported. The accident caused a significant traffic snarl-up along the steep highway, with residents joining efforts to assist the injured learners.
At the time of publishing, police officers had not yet arrived at the scene. This accident comes nearly two months after a similar incident along the same highway.
On May 13, a matatu carrying high school students lost control and rolled several times at Kwa Mbisu in the Nthungoni area of Makueni County.
The passengers were rushed to Mbooni Sub County Hospital and treated, with no fatalities reported in that incident either.
