The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) announced on Monday, July 29, that all government employees are now eligible for an educational loan under the Jielimishe Loan program.
This initiative allows permanent and pensionable government employees to receive up to Ksh 600,000 for furthering their education.
HELB also stated that employees from selected private companies could access this educational loan.
The loan features a low-interest rate of just 10% per annum, making it an attractive option for those looking to advance their academic qualifications.
Eligible applicants include members of the National Police Service (NPS) and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), as well as employees of both county and national governments working in various ministries.
Staff from public commissions such as the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Public Service Commission (PSC), and others are also encouraged to apply.
Employees of Kenya’s 290 parastatals, including the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), National Social Security Fund (NSSF), National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), and others, can take advantage of this opportunity.
Lecturers and support staff at public universities and academic institutions are also eligible.
To verify eligibility for private companies, Kenyans can email jielimishe@helb.co.ke. Undergraduate students applying for second and subsequent loans are advised to use the USSD code *642# to submit their applications.
This new initiative aims to promote continuous education and professional development among Kenya’s workforce.
