The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has questioned three senior officials in Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s office over their alleged role in planning anti-government protests.
They include his Political Advisor Ngunjiri Wambugu, Youth Advisor George Theuri and Private Secretary Munene wa Mumbi.
Sources said the three were questioned by detectives at the DP’s Karen office where they recorded statements in the ongoing investigations.
Officials familiar with the investigations said the aides of the DP are being investigated for allegedly providing monetary support for protesters who stormed Parliament on June 25, and subsequently demanded President William Ruto’s removal from office.
The Serious Crimes Unit (SCU), housed at the DCI headquarters in Kiambu Road, have also summoned allies of DP Gachagua for grilling.
They include Embakasi North lawmaker James Gakuya, and his Embakasi Central counterpart Mejja Donk.
The two are suspected to have been part of a ring of individuals who directly or indirectly had a hand in the infiltration of goons during the Gen-Z protests.
More MPs are said to be on the SCU radar, as well as one former Governor, all required to record statements over the events that led to unprecedented invassion of Parliament.
There is however no formal evidence presented over their involvement in the protests.
The probe on the officials at DP Gachagua’s office comes in the wake of claims of an impending impeachment of the deputy president.
