Two high school students in form 3 and form 4 heading to Nairobi from Busia were arrested and bhang worth Ksh 690,000 seized.
In a statement of Friday, August 2, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the two students are aged 16 and 17 years respectively. The one aged 17 is in Form 4 while the other aged 16 is in Form 3.
According to the DCI, the two students were traveling in a Guardian Angel bus from Busia to Nairobi when the police received a tip of suspected bhang being ferried by the two minors.
The multi-agency team set up a roadblock at Suo and intercepted the bus.
“The two were traveling on a Guardian Angel bus, registration number KCW 073X, destined for Nairobi from Busia when their illicit cargo was discovered. Acting on a tip-off, a vigilant multi-agency team stationed at the Suo roadblock intercepted the bus,” read the statement in part.
The officers conducted a search and discovered five bales of bhang, weighing a total of 23 kilograms, cleverly concealed in the students’ bags. The bhang is estimated to have a street value of Ksh690,000.
The two high school students were escorted to Busia police station, where they are being processed for court.
