Putin Accuses Ukraine of Major Provocation Amid Ongoing Conflict

President Vladimir Putin has denounced Ukraine for what he called “another major provocation,” following reports of approximately 300 Ukrainian troops crossing into Russia’s Kursk region on Tuesday.

Russian defense officials stated that Ukrainian forces, supported by 11 tanks and over 20 armored combat vehicles, breached the border near Sudzha, just 10 km from the front line.

The clash has led to ongoing fighting in the area, with local authorities reporting that thousands have fled their homes.

Putin accused Ukrainian forces of indiscriminately targeting civilian structures and residences, leading to significant casualties. Russian authorities claimed that Ukrainian shelling resulted in three civilian deaths and 24 injuries, including six children.

In response, Russia’s Ministry of Defence asserted that it thwarted further Ukrainian advances and destroyed several Ukrainian drones overnight.

Air alerts were issued in Kursk, with local officials advising residents to limit their movements and canceling public events.

Footage verified by the BBC showed fighter jets over the region and smoke rising from affected areas.

Acting regional governor Alexei Smirnov confirmed that the situation is under control and reported that medical teams from Moscow and St. Petersburg are en route to assist.

Kyiv has yet to comment on these latest developments, while military analysts debate the strategic impact of these cross-border operations.

This incursion follows previous attacks and raises questions about the potential for further escalation in the region.
