Tourists Stranded as Nakuru-Narok Highway Blocked by Protests

On Tuesday morning, tens of tourists were among hundreds of motorists stranded in a massive traffic jam on the Nakuru-Narok Highway.

The gridlock was caused by protests staged by residents of Olokurto ward, who blocked the busy road to demand better infrastructure.

Witnesses reported that the demonstrators, frustrated by the poor state of local roads, took to the streets, urging their area Member of Parliament, Agnes Mantaine, to address the issue.

Specifically, they called for the construction of the Lengetia-Olpusimoru Road, which has been in disrepair for months.

Videos from the scene showed a long line of vehicles, including tour vans, stuck in the jam, as residents intensified their protests.

Some motorists were forced to seek alternative routes, while others abandoned their vehicles to walk.

This is not the first time the Nakuru-Narok Highway has faced disruptions.

In April, heavy rains caused a section of the road near Mai Mahiu to be closed after floods deposited debris on the highway.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has been working to clear blockages, but the problem persists, causing significant inconvenience to travelers.
