In a spectacular showcase of grace and intellect, Chidimma Adetshina has been crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, representing Taraba State.
The 23-year-old’s ascent to the title reflects both her tenacity and the challenges she faced that resonate with many, particularly harking back to the controversy surrounding the Miss Universe South Africa pageant.
Born and raised in South Africa to a Nigerian father and a Mozambican mother, Chidimma’s journey has not been without its hurdles.
After facing backlash online regarding her national identity and enduring accusations of fraud from the South African Home Office, she made the bold decision to withdraw from the Miss South Africa competition.
Nevertheless, her determination led her to accept an invitation from the Miss Universe organisers to participate in the Nigerian edition, which became a turning point in her career.
The Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, featuring 25 contestants, dazzled attendees with displays of elegance, poise, and empowerment.
After a series of captivating performances, the top five finalists emerged: Chidimma Adetshina from Taraba, Paula Ezendu from Anambra, Brittany Edeifo from Edo, Ayegbidun Peace Olamide from Ondo, and Nyekachi Douglas from Rivers.
In a nail-biting climax, Chidimma was announced as the overall winner, receiving a cash prize of N10 million and the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico this November.
She dedicated her crown to a message of unity, stating, “This crown is not just for beauty; it’s a call for unity.”
With her inspiring journey, Chidimma Adetshina is set to be a formidable representative for Nigeria on the international stage.
