Victor Wanyama Eyes Coaching Career

Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama is setting his sights on a coaching career as he approaches the twilight of his impressive two-decade-long playing journey.

Currently plying his trade at CF Montreal in Canada, Wanyama has expressed a desire to pass on the extensive knowledge he has gained from working alongside various esteemed coaches throughout his career.

In an interview with FIFA Media, Wanyama spoke candidly about his aspirations.

“I think I will do that, yes [become a coach],” he affirmed. “I’ve worked with some great coaches. I look at how they see the game, and I’ve tried to take in everything.” His enthusiasm for learning and growth in the game underpins his ambition, as he believes he has the potential to excel as a manager.

“I believe one day I could be a good manager,” Wanyama added.

“My motivation is always to learn new things. Football is a game of learning—nobody knows it all. Whatever I do in football, I just always want to be the best I can be.”

Wanyama’s current stint in Canada has also left a lasting impression on him, noting the strong bond among players and the vibrant atmosphere in Montreal.

“The atmosphere here is very good,” he remarked, praising both the camaraderie within the team and the enjoyment of playing for passionate fans.

Reflecting on the evolution of football in Canada, Wanyama credits the nation’s qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup with inspiring a surge in interest for the sport.

He believes that the upcoming co-hosting of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will further galvanize this momentum.

“It will push them to play more, work hard, and try to reach the same heights. It can give the youth the belief that they can be on the same stage one day,” he stated, emphasizing the transformative potential of the event on the sport’s landscape in Canada.
