The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party has announced the death of veteran politician Mzee John Orwenjo Unmidho.
In a statement on Thursday, September 12, ODM said that the Alego-Usonga Branch Chairman passed away after an illness.
ODM described him as an active and loyal party member who spent most of his time strengthening the party.
“We mourn the passing on last night of our Alego-Usonga Branch Chairman Mzee John Orwenjo Umidho after an illness. Mzee was a loyal & and active member of the party and spent most of his time strengthening the party,” read part of the statement.
Further, the party said that Mzee Orwenjo was instrumental in bringing sanity, stability and unity in the party in Alego and the larger Siaya County.
Head of Communications in ODM Philip Etale while confirming Mzee Orwenjo’s death said that the party has lost a gem, adding that his death comes following the death of his son barely two months ago.
Etale further sent his condolences to Mzee Orwenjo’s family and the entire ODM fraternity in Siaya.
“His death comes barely two months after the death of his son Wakili Vincent Orwenjo. We pray for his family, friends, relatives and the entire ODM fraternity in Siaya County for the loss,” Etale wrote.
Mzee Orwenjo’s demise also comes following the passing on of former assistant Transport Minister and ex-Bomachoge Member of Parliament Simon Ogari who was also affiliated to the Orange Democratic Movement party.
Ogari passed away at the age of 68 on September 10 with his family in a statement saying that the former MP succumbed to a long illness while at his Karen home in Nairobi.
