Mwingi Terror: Gunmen Open Fire At Mandongoi Primary School

Students and teachers at Mandongoi Primary School in Mwingi, Kitui County, are grappling with trauma following a harrowing incident where armed gunmen invaded the institution, resulting in gunfire that left one student wounded.

The attack has instigated widespread fear, prompting immediate disruptions to learning activities and forcing the school to close its doors.

Headteacher Joel Maundu has urgently appealed to the government for help in restoring security to enable the resumption of classes.

Speaking to Citizen TV, Maundu emphasized the critical situation, stating, “We have grade 6 pupils who are supposed to be sitting for KPSEA exams soon. If this issue is not addressed, candidates will face significant challenges in preparing for their examinations.”

A member of the school board, Jeremiah Nyayo, highlighted ongoing insecurity in the region, attributing recent attacks to camel herders, which have escalated fears and prompted families to flee.

“Insecurity has paralyzed education, leading to the closure of four schools and forcing families to seek refuge in areas like Mutairu, Nzaini, and Ngomeni,” Nyayo said.
