Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been denied bail following his not guilty plea in a high-profile sex trafficking case.
A federal judge in New York determined that the 54-year-old musician poses a “serious flight risk” after prosecutors outlined alarming allegations against him.
Combs was arrested on Monday night and faces a 14-page indictment that charges him with various offenses, including racketeering, sex trafficking by force, and transportation for prostitution.
According to federal prosecutors, he is accused of running a criminal enterprise that reportedly relied on drugs and violence to manipulate women into fulfilling his sexual desires.
During the court proceedings, Combs’ attorney, Marc Agnifilo, expressed unwavering support for his client.
“We believe in him wholeheartedly,” Agnifilo asserted. “He didn’t do these things. There’s no coercion and no crime.” The lawyer added that they are appealing the judge’s decision to deny bail, with a hearing scheduled for Wednesday.
Prosecutors painted a troubling picture of Combs, claiming he abused, threatened, and coerced women to maintain his reputation and conceal his alleged misconduct. Court documents detail accusations of physical violence, asserting that Combs assaulted women by “striking, punching, dragging, throwing objects at, and kicking them.”
The case has captured significant media attention, considering Combs’ celebrity status and the serious nature of the allegations.
