The Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) has issued a 30-day strike notice, accusing county governments of violating the terms of a July agreement that ended a 99-day strike.Â
KUCO expressed frustration at the failure to implement promotions and redesignations as agreed, warning that if their demands are not met, they will resume industrial action.
In a statement shared on their official X page, the union criticized the Council of Governors (CoG) for negotiating with individual counties, contrary to court directives.
KUCO is demanding that all counties immediately provide medical cover for its members and cover medical expenses incurred since September 1, 2024.
The union also called for the conclusion of their Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiations with the CoG within the next 30 days.
They singled out Kisii County for alleged victimization of its members, demanding an end to arbitrary transfers and the harmonization of contracts for casual workers.
Additionally, KUCO insists that salaries withheld during strikes in 2021 and 2024 be paid by October 5.
This latest strike notice adds to ongoing labor unrest, with doctors, university lecturers, and civil workers also issuing strike warnings across Kenya.
The union has emphasized that diplomatic efforts have failed, leaving strike action as the only viable option.
