Gatundu North MP Elijah “Kururia” Njoroge has come under fire after praising the police for arresting activist Kebaso Morara on Monday.

In an interview with Inooro FM on October 1, Njoroge expressed his support for the arrest and suggested Morara be held in a police station within his constituency, which also houses street children.

“I have police moving Morara to different stations. I’d like him brought to one in Gatundu,” Njoroge said, adding, “God bless the officers who arrested him. Now Morara will know this country has laws.”

Njoroge’s remarks have sparked backlash online, with many criticizing the MP for encouraging what some view as intimidation of activists.

Zachary Oguda, a prominent social media voice, called for the recall of MPs like Njoroge, saying such behavior is damaging to governance.

Videos shared by student leader Joshua Okayo revealed allegations of police brutality against activists, including reports of beatings and inhumane treatment.

Morara’s arrest has led to protests, with demonstrators, including Senator Okiya Omtatah, facing tear gas while calling for his release.

Irungu Houghton, Executive Director of Amnesty International Kenya, condemned the arrest as an attack on free expression, stating, “This is a misuse of law enforcement.”

Morara remains detained, with lawyers unable to access him, raising concerns about accountability.
