The match kicked off with a bang, as Mohamed Salah converted a penalty in the 29th minute after being fouled by Chelsea’s Levi Colwill. As the first half drew to a close, Jones was denied a second penalty after a VAR review overturned referee John Brooks’ initial call against Chelsea’s goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez. However, it was the dynamic partnership of Salah and Jones that ultimately made the difference. Jones scored the decisive goal in the 51st minute, stretching to convert Salah’s precise cross in front of a roaring Kop.
