Israel Launches Overnight Strikes on Iranian Military Targets

In response to an Iranian missile barrage earlier this month, Israel carried out extensive airstrikes overnight targeting Iranian military sites.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed strikes on air defense batteries and missile manufacturing facilities, aiming to secure “broader freedom of aerial action” in future operations.

Iranian state media reported two soldier fatalities, though sources conflicted over the extent of damage.

The Israeli counterattack follows Tehran’s launch of nearly 200 ballistic missiles towards Israel on October 1, a move Tehran framed as retaliation for the July killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh on Iranian soil.

Most missiles were intercepted, but several reached central and southern Israel.

The U.S. and the U.K. have since urged de-escalation, with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer defending Israel’s right to self-defense and advocating for restraint from Iran.

U.S. officials confirmed they were notified in advance, with Washington emphasizing a “targeted and proportional” approach.

While Iran claimed minimal impact, Israel’s actions raise regional tensions amid concerns of broader conflict.
