Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made headlines once again, claiming that he had forewarned President William Ruto about the potential pitfalls of engaging with Indian billionaire Gautam Adani.
This assertion comes in light of recent developments regarding the indictment of Adani Group chairman and top executives in the United States.
During a press conference at his residence in Karen, Gachagua stated, “I told President William Ruto this Adani deal was not right. I raised my concerns even in cabinet meetings, highlighting that the people had rejected Adani, only to be labeled as someone opposing government programs.”
His comments mark a notable shift from his earlier stance, where he claimed ignorance about the Adani arrangements.
Gachagua insisted that the Adani deal had never been presented to the Cabinet Committee for review or approval, stating, “I was never informed, nor was it ever a subject of our deliberations.”
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua trailed his guns on MPs, expressing his dissatisfaction with the reaction from Members of Parliament who applauded Ruto’s decision.
“The cancellation does not even deserve a round of applause, let alone a standing ovation,” he stated. Gachagua emphasized that the President’s action was prompted by external influences rather than internal scrutiny.
He criticized the current crop of MPs, stating, “Even them clapping for the President for cancelling Adani was uncalled for. Had it not been for the American Government’s intervention, they would have continued praising Adani just like they used to.”
Gachagua was speaking at a Church service at the AIPCA Kangari, Kigumo in Murang’a County. He was accompanied by close allies including MPs and Senators.
