High Court Threatens to Jail IG Kanja Over Contempt in Abduction Case

Justice Bahati Mwamuye of the High Court has given the Inspector General of Police the very final opportunity to appear in court and explain what happened to the abducted Kenyans.

The Court said should IG of Police, Mr. Douglas Kanja fail to appear in Court, he risks being cited for contempt of Court.

Justice Mwamuye had earlier on directed that IG Kanja and DCI Mohamed Amin to personally appear in court today, but they skipped the session with their Lawyers saying that they were engaged in some National Security matters.

Justice Mwamuye said that he would have proceeded to convict the IG for contempt of Court but opted to give him a last chance to appear in Court.

“I will give the IG a last chance to appear before this court before I opt for the first option and invite him for mitigation before sentencing,” Said Justice Mwamuye.

So far IG maintained that the National Police Service (NPS) was not privy to the abductions and that national security was not involved.
