Rev. Fr. Jackson Murugara, IMC. has been appointed as the Coadjutor Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Meru. The 54-year-old Bishop-elect, who hails from Kamanyaki in Tharaka Nithi County, joins the Diocese where his ancestors are buried.
Fr. Murugara, who has been serving as a priest at the Consolata Shrine in Westlands, Nairobi, until his appointment, is set to bring a deep understanding of the local community and a commitment to spreading the Good News of Christ to the faithful in Meru. His appointment was officially announced in L’Osservatore Romano in Rome, and Archbishop Bert Van Megen, the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya, communicated the news to the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB).
Born in 1970 to a family of ten children, Fr. Murugara embarked on his journey into the priesthood at Muthitwa Primary School, where he was educated between 1981 and 1988. His spiritual journey was marked by his novitiate at Sagana in 1996-1997, and he was ordained as a priest on August 15, 2001, at Matiri Parish in the Diocese of Meru.
The Coadjutor Bishop-elect has spent several years studying abroad, earning a degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies from the Pontifical Urbanian University in Rome. His experience as a priest in Nairobi and his deep roots in Meru make him uniquely qualified to lead the Diocese as it continues to grow in faith and commitment to social justice.
As he takes up his new role, Fr. Murugara is likely to be welcomed warmly by the faithful in Meru, who look forward to his leadership and guidance in spreading the Gospel to all corners of the Diocese.
