NTSA Launches New School Bus Measures to Enhance Transport Safety

In a bid to address growing concerns over the safety of schoolchildren during pick-up and drop-off hours, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has unveiled a new set of stringent measures.

The move aims to ensure the welfare of learners as they commute to and from school.

As part of the Draft Traffic (School Transport) Rules 2025, NTSA has introduced the requirement for vehicle attendants to be stationed on school transport vehicles.

The attendants will be responsible for ensuring that children are safely boarded and disembarked, thus reducing the risk of accidents during transportation.

Furthermore, NTSA has emphasized the importance of implementing a crossing guard system.

The guards will be positioned at strategic points along the school routes to help supervise and manage the safe passage of children to and from school vehicles, thereby minimizing the risk of road accidents.

The NTSA has also called upon schools to collaborate with the authorities in implementing these measures, emphasizing the shared responsibility of ensuring the safety of learners.

According to NTSA statistics, the majority of school transportation-related accidents occur during pick-up and drop-off hours. The new measures are a step towards mitigating this risk and creating a safer environment for children to learn.
