The government has announced that the Ksh 45.3 billion Talanta Sports Stadium will be completed by December 2025, ahead of the 2027 AFCON tournament, which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.

Speaking on Tuesday, Principal Secretary for Sports Peter K. Tum reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the project, noting that construction is on schedule.

“The contractor confirmed that work is progressing well, with completion set for December 2025. This will allow for testing ahead of the 2026 handover to CAF,” Tum said.

Construction, which began in March 2024, is being overseen by the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) in collaboration with the Kenya Defence Forces.

The state-of-the-art facility will be dedicated exclusively to football, with a secondary outdoor field but no running track — a first for Kenyan stadiums.

The Talanta Sports Stadium, inspired by Kenya’s national emblem, will be the country’s first international-standard sports venue since Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums, built over three decades ago.

With CAF having previously postponed the African Nations Championship due to infrastructure concerns, the completion of this stadium is a critical step toward bolstering Kenya’s standing in international football.
