According to a gazette notice issued on January 31, 2025, President William Ruto has revoked the appointments of two state officials, Joe Owaka Ager and Kiema Mwandia.
Owaka, formerly the Chair of the Board of Directors at the Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya, was relieved of his duties following a presidential directive.
A former ally of Raila Odinga, Owaka previously held roles including General Manager of Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) and Chair of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
His recent appointment as Secretary of Governance came amid Ruto’s push for austerity measures, including reducing advisory roles.
The second official, Kiema Mwandia, a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) county coordinator in Kitui, was dismissed from his position as a member of the Tanathi Water Works Development Agency Board.
These moves follow the revocation of Francis Meja’s appointment by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba.
Meja, the former Director General of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), recently assumed his new role as a member of the Public Service Commission.
The most recent adjustments demonstrate President Ruto’s ongoing attempts to simplify leadership nominations across state agencies and restructure important government boards.
