The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has officially announced that the Safari 7s will make its return to Nairobi County in October 2025, marking a return to the city after a single-year stint in Machakos County.
According to the KRU, the 27th edition of the tournament is scheduled to take place from October 10-12, although the exact venue has yet to be confirmed. The Safari 7s has been held every year except for 2020 and 2022, when it was canceled due to the COVID-19 crisis and logistics challenges respectively.
The tournament has traditionally been held at the RFUEA Grounds on Ngong Road, which has hosted 18 editions. However, the Moi International Stadium Kasarani has also hosted the Safari Sevens four times in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016, while Nyayo Stadium was the venue in 2015 and 2016.
The 2024 edition of the tournament saw Shujaa emerge as the winners for the third consecutive time, defeating Shogun Rugby 12-0 in the final. This victory marked a successful campaign for the team, who have now won 12 overall titles in the Safari 7s history.
In the women’s category, Costa Rica Barbarians claimed the title, while Kenya Lionesses won the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2024, which featured a round-robin format with five teams.
The Safari 7s promises to be an exciting event, with 10 men’s teams and five women’s teams confirmed to participate in the 2025 edition. Fans can expect an action-packed tournament, with a new venue to be announced in the coming weeks.
