Police and hospital officials are probing a tragic incident at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), where a 35-year-old patient died under mysterious circumstances.
The victim, identified as Gilbert Kinyua Muthoni, was being treated for a rare neurological disorder at the hospital’s Ward 7B.
According to KNH CEO Dr. William Sigilai, Muthoni’s condition remained stable until early Friday morning when he was discovered motionless with a cut wound on his neck. Nurses immediately alerted security personnel and hospital management, and a crime scene was cordoned off.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) was notified, and detectives are currently investigating the incident. Muthoni’s next of kin were informed, and a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted soon.
KNH officials have assured the public that they are cooperating fully with law enforcement agencies, emphasizing the hospital’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic event and remain committed to finding out what happened,” said the KNH CEO. “We urge the public to allow the DCI to conduct its investigations without interference and refrain from speculation that may cause further distress to the family.”
Security at KNH has been heightened following the incident, with hospital officials implementing increased measures to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors.
