A young man, identified as Benjamin Agaba, has this Wednesday morning set himself on fire near the entrance of Uganda Parliament in a shocking act of desperation.
Agaba claimed neglect by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
Eyewitnesses say Agaba, who appeared distressed, doused himself in a flammable liquid before igniting the flames.
Security personnel and bystanders rushed to his aid, managing to extinguish the fire before he suffered fatal injuries.
He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, though the extent of his injuries remains unclear.
Agaba reportedly accused the NRM of abandoning him after his property was allegedly vandalized by supporters of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP).
He further claimed that his father had been left homeless due to their political affiliation.
According to his statements, he had been seeking assistance from NRM party offices for over a year but received no help.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
