An elderly man was killed, and four others were wounded in a stabbing attack at the HaMifratz Central train and bus station in Haifa.
Police have classified the incident as a terrorist attack.
The assailant, identified as a Druze Israeli man from Shfaram who had recently returned from abroad, was shot dead at the scene by security guards.
Authorities said such attacks by members of Israel’s Druze community are highly unusual.
The victim who lost his life was approximately 70 years old, according to the Magen David Adom ambulance service.
A 15-year-old boy and a man and woman in their 30s were seriously injured, while a 70-year-old woman sustained moderate wounds.
Witnesses reported that the attacker traveled from Shfaram by bus and began stabbing passengers upon arrival at the station.
He then exited the bus and continued attacking people on the concourse.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the attack, stating, “We will continue to fight everywhere against those who seek to murder us and we will defeat them.”
Hamas praised the attack, calling it a “heroic” act, though no group has officially claimed responsibility.
The attack comes amid ongoing tensions over the stalled Gaza ceasefire negotiations.
