Members of Parliament on Monday paid a glowing tribute to the late Malava MP, Hon. Malulu Injendi, during his requiem service at his Lugusi home in Kakamega County.
Speaking at the service, leaders set aside their political affiliations to mourn Hon. Injendi, describing him as a dedicated leader who impacted many lives through development initiatives.
The Western MPs Caucus, led by its chairman, Hon. John Waluke (Sirisia), praised Injendi’s leadership, emphasizing his strong connection with the electorate.
“The fact that Hon. Injendi was serving his third term shows the love and confidence the people had in him,” said Hon. Waluke.
Hon. Bernard Shinali (Ikolomani), the chairman of the Adhoc Committee overseeing the funeral arrangements, highlighted Injendi’s commitment to education.
“Education was his top priority. He supported schools through infrastructural development and helped needy students through bursaries and personal donations,” he said.
Hon. Shinali further noted that Injendi’s background in education earned him the position of vice chairperson of the National Assembly’s Committee on Education.
“He was a key member of the Committee and was relied on for guidance,” he added.
Kakamega County Woman Representative Hon. Elsie Muhanda underscored Injendi’s dedication to supporting widows in the constituency.
“Widows in Malava felt his warmth. His death has left them more vulnerable,” she said, promising to continue supporting them.
Bungoma Senator Hon. Wafula Wakoli hailed Injendi’s efforts in championing sugar sector reforms to benefit cane farmers.
“The Sugar Bill, which Hon. Injendi contributed significantly to, will revolutionize the sugar industry for the benefit of farmers,” said Hon. Wakoli.
Among the leaders present were National Assembly Speaker Hon. Moses Wetang’ula, Prime Cabinet Secretary Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, and Bungoma Governor H.E. Kenneth Lusaka.
Other MPs who paid tribute included Hon. John Chikati (Tongaren), Hon. Fred Ikana (Shinyalu), Hon. Mary Emaase (Teso South), Hon. John Makali (Kanduyi), Hon. Charles Gimose (Hamisi), Hon. The family, through his widow, Mrs. Betty Injendi, expressed gratitude to the Parliamentary Service Commission for their support.
“Malulu was a pillar of our family. He loved me and our children deeply,” she said, recalling how they met at university and later became teachers and life partners.
Hon. Malulu Injendi will be laid to rest tomorrow in a state funeral attended by President H.E. Dr. William Ruto.
