Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Tuesday, March 18 met with the new British High Commissioner to Kenya Neil Wigan.
In a statement shared on his social media, Raila said they had an illuminating discussion which focused on Kenya’s long running relationship with the UK, the state of the Kenyan nation and the evolving international system.
“I was happy to learn that the UK is keen to strengthen ties with our counties through a shift from traditional aid to economic investment,” part of the statement read.
Raila said that he was also happy to hear from Mr Wigan of the UK and Europe’s determination to maintain engagement with the international community including Africa, on issues that have kept the international system working.
“Long live Kenya-UK partnership,” he added.

Wigan was appointed as the new British High Commissioner to Kenya in April replacing Jane Marriott who served in the position for four years.
Before his appointment as the UK Ambassador to Kenya, Wigan served the same role in Tel Aviv Israel.
He has also previously served as the UK Ambassador to Somalia and DRC. The father of two has also worked as the FCO Director Africa from 2015 to 2018.
